Christie’s to hold online auction

Want to get hold of vintage Hermès without entering a well-heeled scrum? Now you’re in with a chance: iconic auction house Christie’s is launching a new season of exclusive fashion and accessories sales. Running from 18 April to 2 May, this is an exciting move for the 247-year old auction house. Each sale will be hosted exclusively online – think eBay but with less effort. The selection includes 71 stylish pieces with an A-list history – from jewellery by Kenneth J Lane (who designed pieces for Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O) and Joseff of Hollywood (whose star clientele included Elizabeth Taylor and Vivien Leigh) to handbags and luggage by Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Hermès. And with prices starting at just £200, there’s something for modest as well as Hollywood budgets. Going once, going twice….we’re sold. And we can exclusively bring you a first look at the campaign shots starring model Anja Rubik. The online boutique is a sponsor of the exhibition, and has persuaded 13 designers to create exclusive pieces for them. Preen, Givenchy, Vivienne Westwood, Eddie Borgo and more have all given over 100 pieces a punk makeover – Charlotte Olympia’s cat slippers have even been given earrings and a safety pin nose stud. In the May issue of ELLE, on sale now, Moda Operandi founder, Lauren Santo Domingo, and Taylor Tomasi Hill, the site’s artistic director, both told us why punk has been such an influence for them – and their wardrobes. Revealed Lauren, ‘My father took me to see the punks in London's Trafalgar Square in the late 80s. Of course it was meant to be a cautionary tale but I insisted on getting a pair of Dr Martens. I wasn't so inspired as to pierce anything.’ While Taylor added, ‘We all have the opportunity to be a little bit punk these days. From clothing to music to hairstyles, people who love fashion are always attracted to the unusual, which is why we feel a special kinship with the misfits of the punk movement.’ The collection is set to launch on 2 May, with prices from $100 to $13,000.
